Bullhead Woman Pleads Guilty to Embezzling from Bank in McLaughlin

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Ella Mae Kills Pretty Enemy, age 22, of Bullhead, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on April 30, 2012, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged her with Bank Embezzlement. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 30 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The conviction arose from incidents between November and December 2010, when Kills Pretty Enemy was employed as a teller at a bank in McLaughlin, South Dakota. During that time, Kills Pretty Enemy embezzled $1,500 in cash from her cash drawer.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Detective Division, Standing Rock Agency. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 30, 2012. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
